Enclosure

  • The enclosure

  • Ideal - At least a 4x2x2ft front-opening enclosure

  • Screen lid

    • Only if your enclosure does not have one

Substrate

Choose either loose or non-loose substrate.

Loose Substrate

  • Children’s Playsand

  • Organic chemical-free topsoil

Non-loose substrate

Choose One:

  • Non-adhesive shelf liner

  • Tile (Not vinyl or linoleum - no adhesives)


Lighting and Heat

Overhead Heating

  • At least one of the following:

    • Par38 dimmable halogen bulb (around 100w for a 4x2x2ft enclosure)

      • Visible light - good for day heat

AND (if nighttime heat is needed to keep temps at ~65°F or as high as 75°F)

  • Deep Heat Projector (50w-80w)

    • Good for night heat if needed

OR

  • Ceramic Heat Emitter (75w-100w)

    • Good for night heat if needed

  • Fixture(s)

    • Dome-style fixture for Par38 Halogen (and Ceramic Heat Emitter if needed)

UVB Light

    • Strip style T5 UVB bulb and fixture that about half the length of the enclosure

      • We recommend the Arcadia T5 HO 12% bulb

Heating and Lighting Accessories

  • Thermostat

  • Digital thermometer with probe

  • Digital hygrometer (to read humidity)

  • Temperature gun (to read surface temperatures)


Decor and Hides

  • Hides

  • Basking spot surface

    • A rocky surface that will hold heat well that is at least as large as your bearded dragon

  • Climbing surfaces(s

  • Fake plants

  • Rocks


These are just ideas. As long as the decor is bearded dragon-safe, it is personal preference. We do not recommend using materials found outside, at least without proper sanitization.

Live feeder insects and storage

The number of insects for your bearded dragon’s diet depends on its age. Please consult our care guide for quantity approximations. A variety of feeders is required.

  • Treat Feeders (no more than 3-4x per month)
